God's Healing Will Set You Free
Before you read this Post, please take a few minutes and read the scripture verses below:
There are so many lessons in this passage of scripture. The first one, and most obvious, I think, is that the rules of your religion are not more important than people. Jesus taught that the Sabbath, or the day of rest, was for man, not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27) These words of Christ are to remind us that the Sabbath day was meant to be a blessing instead of a burden to those who observe it. You can find commentary here.
Secondly, I’m sure this poor woman had asked for healing, and did not receive it for some reason, but she kept going to the synagogue every Sabbath. She did not give up her obedience to the scripture. So many people don’t get what they want and just say, God must not love me. Again, this is believing lies rather than God’s Word.
Verse 16 is what I want to focus on right now. Jesus said this woman has been set free. She not only had a physical healing, but she also had virtual bondage removed as well. And that is of utmost importance. I speak a lot about the bondage of our past, our sin, and how to be free from those chains. People complain a lot that they cannot get free or find victory in life. And I find that most of these people are not willing to give up what they are bound by or, are not willing to accept change in their life
Jesus also said, in this case, it was the influence of Satan that caused her to be crippled. Many people, even Christians, allow Satan into their lives and, actually inviting damaging things into their lives (horoscopes, excessive drinking and drugs, pornography, sexual encounters, etc.) that keep them from the freedom and the intimate relationship that they really want.
I would invite you to come to a point in your life where you can tell the Lord (confess) that you give up control and anything else in your life that He needs to change. To begin to worship Him in the Spirit and in truth and stop lying to yourself, and to God. Come clean and be healed.
PLEASE TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO READ THESE SCRIPTURE VERSES:
10 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,
11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.
12 When Jesus saw her, He called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”
13 Then He put His hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”
15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?
16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
